Science - Mr De Soysa

So far in science this year we have learnt a lot about the 4 layers of the earth (crust, mantle, inner core and outer core) and we also learnt about the different tectonic plates on the Earth.
Inner core
The inner core of the Earth is the centre and the innermost layer of the earth. it is a solid ball with a radius of around 1220 kilometres. It is also the hottest out of the four layers.
Outer core
The outer core of the Earth is a liquid layer and is located around the outside of the inner core. The outer core is about 2400 kilometres thick and it's composed of mostly iron and nickel.
Mantle
The mantle lies between the crust and the outer core and is 2900 kilometres thick (the thickest out of the four). There is 2 parts to the mantle and that is called the asthenosphere. The bottom of the mantle is about 7000F deep and the top is about 1300F.
Crust
The crust is the thinnest layer of the earth and has 2 parts. One called the Oceanic crust and the other is the Continental crust. The crust is the outermost layer of the earth and is the layer which people live upon.

List of some of the plates of the earth:
African Plate
Antarctic Plate
Eurasian Plate
North American Plate
Indo-Australian Plate
Pacific Plate
