Te Wheke

Te Wheke is a health model that looks at a person’s well-being from the Maori perspective. The concept of Te Wheke is to represent family health. The octopus’ head represents te whanau (the family), the eyes represent waiora (total well-being for the individual and family) and each of the eight tentacles represents a specific dimension of health.
