Te Wheke

Te Wheke is a health model that looks at a person’s well-being from the Maori perspective. The concept of Te Wheke is to represent family health. The octopus’ head represents te whanau (the family), the eyes represent waiora (total well-being for the individual and family) and each of the eight tentacles represents a specific dimension of health.

Child Labour

Child Labour is any work that children carry out. Child Labour can be mentally, physically and psychologically harming towards children. Child Labour is bad work that is forced upon children usually aged 5-17. The work that the children do is very hazardous and dangerous and child labour violates human rights.

In the video Life of Chains, it showed lots of dangerous jobs that child labourers do such as, making fireworks, breaking gravel and many more. These jobs are dangerous to the kids because they have to use lots of dangerous chemicals to make the stuff that they are required to make such as phosphorus. It is also dangerous because they are not give any protection such as gloves so they have to touch the chemicals with their bare hands.

One reason why lots of children work as child labourers is because they have to pay off their parents' debts. For example, if their parents were to borrow something off someone and they don't have the money to pay them back for it, then they would give their children as child labourers to pay the people back. Another reason why there are lots of child labourers is because a lot of them are taken from their home country to be slaves in another country.

Child labour has a lot of negative effects on children. One of the most negative effects is the fact that they are not able to have an education like all the other children in the world. Because of this, these child labourers will most likely grow up with less knowledge than everyone else.

I predict that child labour will make children in the future feel grateful for what they have because child labourers don't have anywhere near as much as they do. I also predict that the number of child labourers will drastically decrease and hopefully in a few years there will be no more child labour at all.

Food Technology - Blueberry Muffins

Today in food technology, myself and my class baked some blueberry muffins. Even though some people made some small mistakes, it was still an amazing experience baking these muffins for the first time.

When our muffins came out the oven, we all put them away and cleaned up the kitchen.

We all enjoyed baking these blueberry muffins and they tasted very nice too.

A Significant Place of Mine

The place that is significant to me is my home. It is located in Glen Innes and it is a white house. I first felt connected to this place when I moved into this house which was back in 2014. When I'm at home I never feel uncomfortable because it is where I live. Our house consists of 9 people.

One reason why this place is significant to me is that I live there with my family. Living there with my family makes it an even better environment because it gives us the opportunity to do more activities together as a family. The family members that I live with are my 4 brothers Sean, Ryan, Nathaniel and Logan, my parents and my grandparents.

A second reason why this place is significant to me is that it is a place where my family and I feel safe and secure no matter what time of day. When I'm inside my house I feel like I can be myself and do what I feel like doing without being judged or feeling insecure because of other people's opinions.

A third reason why this place is significant to me is that it is where my family and I can go and have a rest after a long day at school or work. When people feel tired after work or school they like to go to sleep and get some rest because they have done a lot of hard work throughout the day and there is no better place to sleep than home obviously.

A fourth reason why my house is significant to me is that we can have fun at home. At home we can play games like Fortnite, we can eat and do whatever we like to do for fun. Having fun allows us to express our emotions because it shows that we are happy and untroubled, but if we are not having fun, it shows that we are most likely not in a good mood.

That's why my house is a significant place. It is safe, I live with my family, it is a good place to rest and we can have fun. Those are all the reasons why my house is my significant place. What is your significant place?

Current Events - Cook Island Change Name

This article is about the Cook Islands wanting to change their name because of the fact that their name is a reference to Captain Cook (the founder of the Islands) and they don't like it. The Cook Island Government are trying their best to change the name. This story happened on the 3rd of March. I think that it is good for them to speak on what they believe is best for their Islands. I agree with them on changing the name because it is their country, not Captain Cook's.
